Building this website….

Hello! I am the author of this blog and the creator of this website. I’m NEW to the process of creating a website in WordPress (software recommended by many people). I’ve been learning from “how-to” videos and struggling to make progress.

My goal is to create a website that will provide a handy way to post information and images and files related to “The Pine Knoll Story” – a huge family history project researched years ago by my cousin Janet, who has given her book draft, relevant files, and boxes to me for safe keeping. I’m eager to share some of this special material with other family members or interested historians.

This blog will be my place to report on progress towards that goal, and experiences along the way (problems encountered, solutions tried, discoveries…).

As of today, July 19, 2018, I’ve managed to create a few draft pages within an incomplete website. I’ve chosen the WordPress theme “OceanWP” and have installed a recommended program to edit the pages: “Elementor”. These tools are supposed to help a newbie like me build an attractive, functional website. We’ll see. So far, I’m rather lost in the complexities of the many options and layers. Slowly experimenting.

Sandy

I am a granddaughter of William Stanley Nichols, and great-granddaughter of Andrew Nichols. I grew up in Danvers, Mass., in the 1940's and 1950's and often visited Pine Knoll, an easy walk from our house. At Pine Knoll I played with kittens, learned to knit from cousin Marion, took piano lessons from cousin Annie, and visited with great aunts May and Margaret.
